Auslandsadoption ist die Adoption eines Kindes aus dem Ausland meist über ausländische Organisationen, Vereine oder anerkannte private Vermittlungsstellen. Nach den gesetzlichen Veränderungen im Zuge der Ratifizierung des Haager Minderjährigen Schutzabkommens durch die Bundesrepublik Deutschland ist zwingend die Beteiligung einer in Deutschland zugelassenen Auslandsadoptionsvermittlungsstelle am Verfahren vorgeschrieben. Informationen über diese Auslandsadoptionsvermittlungsstellen sind bei den zentralen Vermittlungsstellen der jeweiligen Landesjugendämter zu erhalten.

Jedoch ist der Kinderhandel aus Drittwelt-Ländern auch durch die neuen Abkommen nicht wirklich zu unterbinden. Ob die Einwilligung in die Adoption tatsächlich freiwillig erfolgt ist, ob das Kind tatsächlich verlassen ist, ist im Annahme-Verfahren oft nicht zu klären.

Zum anderen ist der finanzielle Aufwand für eine einzige Adoption ausreichend um Familien so zu unterstützen, dass sie für Ernährung und Bildung mehrerer Kinder sorgen könnten.
